Unfulfilled Promise

I hear it all day

“He’s got potential,” they say

But still, I am grey...

My plans have no seam,

Each thought, idea, and dream,

I’m great, so I seem...

Today I don’t try

very hard, no do or die.

I’m a half arsed guy!

With all I can do

And also what I’ve learned, too

The damns I give: few.

I suppose I’m spring.

My flowers are still budding.

Yet the birds still sing.

Promise unfinished

But I haven’t yet vanished

nor yet diminished.

Into summer I’ll grow,

My abilities will show,

Places, I will go.

Prove to them, I might,

That I am hard working AND bright

And that they’d been right.
