Unhealthy Attachments
Heavy drops of water
Slink slowly off my coat,
A growing puddle at my feet.
Shoes soaking up each drop
Spreading slowly to the seams.
I watch it collect on my skin,
Beading slowly
Chilling my hands to the bone.
Bones sick with sadness,
Suppressed but never forgotten.
I wear it each day
Heavy in the pockets of my coat.
Shrouded in darkness,
Hidden away for good.
Relinquished of the burden,
A hole left open wide-
Exposed, I long for my coat.
Misery, my constant companion
Comforts me no more,
Left alone and shivering on the floor.
Cold and lonely, I search for my coat
Hoping for the way it was before.
Waiting in vain for darkness to return
Instead of embracing the light.
