Unheimlich

A home within a home; dusty little corner with bugs as a family, a child playing “home-maker” all alone. Hurry up, find a shelter or just build one, Mother’s dupattas, chiffons and chaddars, Tying them up with the door knobs. The roof, historically cherished and beloved, an old palang from the grandmother’s wedding, “It will protect me from the monsters out there”. It’s time for dinner, it is cold, dear bugs… Into the darkness, a closed space, handcrafted with love, sculptured into a grave. A dinner table is set: looks yummy, Happiest family in the world, Hurray! Welcome back home. Loudness strikes the see through walls, The knots keep unwinding themselves, “my home is falling apart, help me.” Mom! Dad! A child becomes homeless, Familiar hands reach down for help, Not to save the little resident, But to pour the soil, drop by drop, and adorn the clay-house… The voices become soft melodies: “Allah-o-Akbar”, Mother’s white linen will calm the poor soul; Let’s go back home!
