Flashbacks, but unity once again A rush of memories all through my head Am I dreaming, or could this be real? A feeling that, again, I thought I’d never feel The game I just finished, I seem to forget, I leave it behind without a regret. The smell of ball park and dirt fade away, I no longer mind the sun’s burning rays. The softball fields vanish from my eye in an instance, I think, no more can I fight this resistance. I can’t believe what I am seeing – In front of me, a special human being 2 whole years, it had been that long, And through that time, we still held to that bond. Back at the softball fields, where we first became friends, And since that first day, we knew it wouldn’t end. Our eyes catch, smiles stretch across our face, And with that, our hearts begin to race. 1 step, and 2 or 3 more, I’ve never been so ecstatic before. Even without one word being spoken, The missing hole in my heart no longer seemed broken. Continuous steps, as we came more near, & in my left eye, I felt a happy tear. That hug and ‘hello’ never meant so much, Reaching a place in my heart, only this friendship could touch. Seeing each other was so unexpected, All of our memories being reflected From the mood in the air, I knew then. She was still, indeed, my best friend. That one day we met again stays safe in my heart, And she’ll stay special to me even though we’re apart. A friendship never fading and always closer than before, Leaves us waiting for the day we will be united once more.
