The Universal Translator

The Universal Translator

How do I explain my pain to you. How do I get you to understand just how much you mean to me and how much I love you. How do I  tell you what serving God really means.  How do I take the complex intertwined feelings of my heart and brain and put them into something as simple as language. You wanna get inside, you want to know me. The only invitation I have for you is poetry,

Poetry is not fancy English. No, I believe poetry is the language of all emotion. And yes music is poetry. I believe poetry and music are the only way we show people what we really mean.  It's through the tone of the poem and the beat of the music that we establish the emotion we intend to explain. Through diction we determine for the reader, what that emotion is to us and what it feels like to us.  Through personification we show how deeply this emotion or sub category of this emotion affects us or our view of something.  Personification is also used in order to allow the writer to speak directly to the emotion instead of the cause of the emotion.

The bass line of a piece gives the underlying cause of the emotion while the melody screams out the cries of the heart explaining the emotion at hand and what the beholder wishes to be done about it.   Music is simply poetry with a soundtrack.  Both wish to express the emotions of the writer whether these emotions be feelings of sadness, joy or anger. Poetry is another name for emotion and music represents the emotions that can't be put into words and  the ones that are to hard to say. This I believe.
