Unknown foe
I wake yet again and the battle begins,
a war rages in me,
a war that no one can see.
It has ravaged my soul and my will to be.
I've battled this foe for ages it seems.
It is relentless and calloused,
driven by hate and malice,
from it I know no respite or solace.
This foe is not ancient,
nor is it new,
this foe is within me and within you.
It creeps in unnoticed and festers within,
if left in the dark to do by it's whim.
We leave it untouched and burry it deep,
all while knowing it will hinder our sleep.
Fear and unease is left at it's wake,
makes us twist and turn while we're still awake.
Its vile and noxious,
infecting us all,
permitting it's stay,
is one's sure downfall.
