Unlikely Host
The first time I felt needed
I was at my lowest low.
I was a rug
in the grander scheme of things.
--
I could see and hear the world,
unable to speak or engage,
til one day you came around
and made me feel wanted.
--
You
talked to me
made me your bank of choice
deposited your secrets
in the fibers of my being
--
You
never requested a withdrawal
never robbed me with a vacuum
--
You
invested all you had in me,
knowing all I could do was take.
--
I
was a leech, not by volition.
was a rug in life’s grander scheme
was at my lowest low
--
But you,
you were even lower.
