Unmasked

I am from a broken home

A girl who seems to have it all together

I put on a face every morning

That face is just a mask

I am surrounded by so many but still feel alone

I feel as if this feeling will stay with me forever

This feeling of hopelessness

This feeling of doubt

This feeling of unworthiness

I realized that I will grow past these feelings

I will become a better version of myself

This face of mine will no longer be a mask

I choose to find joy in the little things

The sunrise that paints the skies in cotton candy colors

The smile from my brother as he makes the basket

The sound of laughter from my grandmother

The taste of freshly made cookies

The smell of spring

This Is what I choose

I choose to focus on the positive

I choose joy

I also choose to accept my past

I choose to not forget the things that I’ve gone through

These things make me who I am

I have created a new mask for myself
