The Unnamed Phoenix

There she was,

Gazing at the students before me.

Her spider-senses seem to react more than she ever could.

The circles under her eyes proof of this.

Success is Counted Sweetest they say,

So when will she hear her victory?

Her victory is taken away by the hero of the town.

The poppies call her,

They are stronger than she.

Winters come and go,

They stay intact.

She is not a poppy.

She is caught in her own dreams.

She can’t seem to quite catch what they mean.

Could it be her own victory in them?

Why is her own subconscious questioning when will she win?

The named one gets all the glory.

She has no shadow as she says I am not good enough.

She is the shadow.

Her heart becomes stone,

Her hands are cold to the touch,

Any Grinch would cower against her.

Those students can’t touch her.

Her hand goes through her mirror.

It is so cold,

When she escapes,

She is your shadow.

The smashed glass crunches under her foot,

She comes near the hero,

She consumes her whole,

And is now true evil.
