Unrecognizable

Emptiness seeps from some long lost source in my chest.
Where did you get a key to these depths of me?
You broke something deep within me that I cannot even begin to fix.

Damn men, with their sly sweet words that draw us into their snares
Manipulating the most carnal senses and swaying our fragile emotions.
You twisted my heart for its pleasing juices to fill your holey soul.

Dripping my sweetest love into an unsanitary container; you ruined me.
A once precious, trusting heart became unrecognizable from your indelicate touch.

Each man after you will receive this mess of flesh to hold and love.
Sadly they'll call it their lovers heart, even though everyone knows it has another name.

Time has abandoned my wounds, taking your side of this stale break-up.
Festering, pink with your personal signature cut into your handy work.

Our love may have been complicated, but I made my finest effort.
Yet, behind my trusting back you told friends of my weaknesses;
As if you, of all people, were ever less crazy than me.

"Open your heart", they say.
“No.”
“Move on”, they say.
“Not that simple.”
“Let go of your past”, they tell me.
“I’ve tried.”

Obviously they have never felt your stinging absence.
