Unrestrained

Who drew the margins for the English language?

For any language!

What are poets—conformists?

Revolutionaries, abiding by the rules set by society

Ridiculous!

Intolerable!

Blasphemy!

What are we, if not

-Rule breakers?

-Line benders?

-Toe steppers?

William Shakespeare

One of the most well known writers of the ages

Created words on a whim!

Besmirch!

Hobnob!

Swagger!

Is he known as

-Ignorant?

-Illiterate?

-Uneducated?

No!

So why should I be?

Ain’t ain’t a word, and I ain’t gonna use it

Well why not?!

What are words anyhow?

A message

Meant for communication between a common species

Expression!

Why would a poet set boundaries for their expression?

Think of the greatest people in our time

Were they simply followers?

Attempt to make a name for yourself by being a traditionalist

Go ahead

Try

I can almost guarantee—you’re not going anywhere

Be made memorable by something that matters

Or, don’t

Stick to fragments never being acceptable

Sentences having to be “properly structured”

Never start a phrase with ‘and’ or but’

Use commas in moderation

As for me

I do not choose to be a disciple of the written rules

Call me ignorant

Illiterate

Uneducated

I choose to express myself

Not abiding to the limitations you set for me

My life

My expression

My faith

I will always choose to be a rule breaker

A line bender

A toe stepper

I will think outside of the box

I will color outside of the lines

If you choose not to follow,

If you choose to remain contained by boundaries

A safe life you will lead, yes

But alas

It is one I would never be satisfied with
