The Unseen Me

Location

I  am average.

Other people see me each day and are not affected.

or they simply say hello and continue on their way.

When i walk into a room,

no heads turn,

no one spits an unkind word,

no one offers a kind word.

Average.

Not beautiful,

not ugly.

Pretty?

Could be.

With make up.

But the unseen me.

The one i dare not share.

Locked in a cage,

dangling above my heart.

She would.

Affect another person's day with just her smile,

start up and continue a conversation,

turn heads,

have unkind words be thrown at her.

She would have kind words in abundance,

cuped safely in her hands.

She would be beautiful,

with just her laugh.

If only i had the courage to let her out.

To let her join in the conversations around me.

To let her interrupt.

And set her opinion firm and loud.

The unseen me.

The one nobody see’s.

She bangs against the cage bars.

But every time i let her out a crack,

She gets stared at.

And stares right back.

And retreats into the cage,

locking it behind her,

Then storing the key

in her pocket,

Until she can once again be set free.
