The Unspoken
Batty Boy
Words of homophobia songs spilled in the lines of Jamaican songs
Now I’m not saying that everyone there has the same mindset
But in recent years, I have witnessed people getting killed for
A wanting, a desire, an emotion
People get slaughtered for being different
I never understood normalcy
We crave so much to be part of it
But at the same time we want to break away from it
They say be the originator, the creator, be something else
Step outside of the box
But me liking men and women
Is a little too insane for most people
Its sad to see some Jamaican people
Suffocating for oppression and they are grasping for acceptance
As if it is air that they need to breathe
And me, I do nothing
What am I suppose to do
Hop on a plane walk through Kingston
Yell at the top of my lungs that something needs to change
No
As soon as the words fall from my mouth
Bullets of hatred will glide through
And I will die in so many ways
Its crazy
That we fight for equality over here
And they fight for the right to live
But if you think about it we are all dying each day
Day by day by day the media and common bystanders
Pick and pick and pick at us
Like we are strings of guitar
But I don’t have any more songs to play
I’m tired of explaining that my bisexuality is not a phase
I’m tired of explaining that bisexuality doesn’t equal promiscuity
I’m tired of the B & the T being forgotten out of the L & the G
I’m just tired of hiding me
My Dad doesn’t know that I love the ladies
One time I asked him what he thought about Gay people
And he said I just don’t care for them
As if we are a snack on a shelf that he consistently passes because it didn’t
Taste right the first time
Well let me tell you something
My body is filled with the adjective delicious
And the words just right are imprinted on my heart
Because I know that that someday
We will stop doing nothing
