The Unspoken Truth
Lao Tzu said, "If you are depressed,
you are living in the past.
If you are anxious,
you are living in the future.
If you are at peace,
you are living in the present."
Well to you I present
the reality of the Depressed.
Though not at peace,
we are not necessarily in the past.
We dream of a future
in which we are not anxious,
but in which our anxious
nature is no longer present.
We live as though the future
will never come because the Depressed
want to lay our past
in the past, at peace.
But we feel like peace
is too far away. We become anxious
like our past
will, too, be our present.
We are depressed,
no denying it. But in the future,
ah, the elusive future.
We will have peace.
We will not be depressed.
We will not be anxious.
Our scarring present
will be our forgiven, but not forgotten, past.
We do not hold onto the past;
we strive for the future.
Living in the present does not bring peace
to everyone. The anxious
become depressed.
Living in the past brings some to peace.
Living in the future makes many anxious.
Living in the present makes many more depressed.
