Untethered
She called it freedom
because no one held the door behind her,
no hands asked where she was going,
no voice warned her of the edge.
She walked lighter, yes
but also alone,
learning too late that weight
is not always a burden.
Some cages are made of fear,
others of love poorly explained.
Some shields feel like chains
until the storm arrives.
Freedom is not the absence of care,
nor the silence of responsibility.
It is the power to choose
with sight, not blindness
to know what you trade,
and what you keep.
This is not a warning,
nor a verdict passed in stone.
It is a quiet question whispered back:
When you let everything go,
what still stands with you?

Predominantly lyric interior voice with universal address; minimal narrative or drama.
