Until Then

Great grandma and grandpa

Though far away now

You’ll always be close

I know one day

The time I spend with you

The time I take for granted now

Will soon come to an end

Until then…

I will appreciate the life lessons

I will listen to your stories

And I will let you watch me grow into the person you knew I’d become

You’ve taught me to enjoy the little things in life

Through simple tasks

And stories upon stories of the fun you had with nothing but time

Oh how time has changed

Not in increments

But in how it’s spent

When I’m with you, time isn’t relevant anymore

So...

I will continue to pick up pinecones for just a smile and a hug

I will come in early from the tree stand to have morning coffee with you

I will continue to write you letters

And I will continue to call with random hellos

To hear your voice

To let you tell me about how grandpa stayed up late again last night

To let you tell me that grandpa’s still sleeping, so you’re watching the birds outside your window

To tell me about the new towels you got and which button you’re thinking of using on them

When I’m talking to you

When I’m with you

And when I think about you

Time isn’t just a thing I count down

Time is something that I long to savor

Like the last drops of water when you’re stranded in the desert
