Untitled

(poems go here) Imagine what it's like to wake up every morning and hate yourself? Despise your own flesh, the way your eyes sparkle in the light, or the way your tummy protrudes ever so slightly above your elastic pj's. Imagine how you would feel looking at yourself in the mirror and hoping the person standing before would just vanish and erase themselves from everyone's memory. This is how the girl with the cover girl models posted all around her bedroom feels every day and night. The pre-teen/teenage who is awkwardly learning the ropes and trying to find her true self amidst all this beauty chaos. She's lost- in her own mind. Yearning to be rescued but doesn't know exactly where to turn or who to turn to. She looks at these magazine clippings- of something she is clearly not- and abuses herself for it. "I am nothing. I will never look like them. No one will ever love me. I am worthless". She frets with her inner demons and angels telling her to rise above while the other is triumphantly breaking her down. She contemplates taking her life to end her misery while thinking of all the laughs and teasing she has to endure at school on a daily basis. Alone at home, she walks into the kitchen and heads over to the cutting board. As she reaches for the steak knife holding it up to her body she is crying, howling until there is nothing left within her and she is empty. She hesitates a moment. All is silent around her. She can hear the wind whistling through the trees outside the kitchen window. She is silent- devoid of all emotion- her senses lost. She takes one more glance out the window and stares up into the blue sky. She inches the knife closer to her wrists staring into space. As the blade touches her skin a bright, warm stream of sunlight engulfs her body and urges her to take another second to consider. She halts. Confused as something inside of her is involuntarily making her stop. She closes her eyes and takes in the warmth from the sun's rays as she lets out a heavy sigh. She looks to the sun and blue sky defeated yet curiously content. Once realizing what she was about to do, she takes a step back and says out loud "I have much more to live for." It is in this moment, this child has her first life revelation that we are all so familiar with. These words mark the first step she will take towards loving herself and not getting caught up with meager trials & tribulations. All of us have our moments of feeling like we want to quit. Some are more serious than others. Please- if you of anyone showing signs of an issue that can possibly get worse- HELP them immediately. No matter what it takes. Teenagers especially need all the guidance they can get whether they realize it on their own or not. Lack of confidence & self esteem should never dictate anybody's life. You, my little one, are much greater than that and have the world at your feet. Head up and smile- Mother Earth is waiting for you to make a change.
