Untitled

You may present your poem now the teacher announced and as she stood up I noticed the trepidation in her petite face.. the careful loitered steps as she maneuvered her way to the front of the room, the small trembles in her voice as she opened up and informed those who occupied space, the title of her piece. my attention piqued as I truly listened, to the quest she spoke of, which dripped of sorrow courage hope and shame.
Like a harsh lullaby I was transfixed yet disgusted by the notes that drifted out of her mouth, that granted me permission into her fully. Her voice, like songbirds, in a setting where i’d be allowed to take in the music without cacophony interjecting my playlist.
