untitled
I never speak to anyone.
You assume: She thinks she's better than us.
You never ask: Why do you not talk?
Maybe if you did, you would find out
When I speak my mind at home
I'm told my opinion doesn't matter.
I leave notes for those who need encouragement.
You assume: She wants to inspire others.
You never ask: Why do you give expecting nothing in return?
Maybe if you did, you would find out
When I search for encouragement at home
I find none to be shared.
I am the loudest one in the room.
You assume: She's always got something to say.
You never ask: Why do you speak loudly?
Maybe if you did, you would find out
When I speak with my family,
I have to shout to be heard.
I come to school with bruises on my face.
You assume: She must not care enough about her appearance.
You never ask: Why do you not hide your bruises?
Maybe if you did, you would find out
When I came home with makeup on,
I get hit even more than usual.
I do not show any emotion.
You assume: She doesn't have any feelings to be hurt.
You never ask: Why do you never smile?
Maybe if you did, you would find out
When I showed emotions at my last school
I was made fun of for being too emotional.
I am mean to all who get close to me.
You assume: She never learned how to be kind.
You never ask: Why do you mistreat your friends?
Maybe if you did, you would find out
When I was kind to my family
I was told it made me weak.
I am the most popular girl at school.
You assume: She has all the confidence in the world.
You never ask: Why do you have so much confidence?
Maybe if you did, you would find out
When I showed weakness at home
I was told to fake it till I made it.
I care for anyone who is hurting.
You assume: She must have a big heart.
You never ask: Why do you spend your time caring for others?
Maybe if you did, you would find out
When I come to my parents with my hurt
I am told to deal with my pain on my own.
