Untold Tale
Untold Tale
By Racheal Lee
Listen – close your eyes –
Do you hear it– Can you hear my plea –
I need you to believe me,
At least my side of the story –
Think back now to the little girl
Who always wore a red cloak,
Little Miss Red Riding Hood,
Oh I can still hear her choke
But let me not jump ahead –
I tried to save her, just remember that –
I met her in the ruthless woods
Off the beaten path
As she collected sun-kissed flowers with a syrupy – sweet laugh,
I smirked, thinking she was out of place
But I gasped thinking of her Grandmother and horror filled my face
Because I knew this dear child was no longer safe,
Grandmother had waited for Little Red Riding Hood
And had planned to make her disappear
She despised her granddaughter,
And would soon fill her with fear
This poor, little girl – the sweet rose in the bush –
I had to do something and something quick,
I tried to lead her deeper into the woods,
But Mother said not to stray
So that only scared her away –
She would soon meet her fate
Because Granny lay in wait
But I had to beat her there
Luckily with time to spare –
I gobbled up Granny
And dared not for more,
Suddenly, a sweet voice at the door
I had no choice
But to say in Granny’s sweet voice -
“Who is it?”
Crawled into bed, played the part
Charming Little Red Riding Hood’s small heart
Hoping she would leave
The more I coughed and sneezed
But she came too close, and she instantly knew
Oh no, she began to scream too
With no ideas in my head
I jumped out of bed
But I am what I am…a Wolf -
In came the woodsman – big, rough and tough,
Grandmother was “rescued”
Still this was not enough
If only they knew
The horror was not through –
Choked with every breath
Who would have thought
That Granny could bring death –
The world forgot about my side
But no longer will I hide
For it is imprinted in my mind
That I could not save her
