Upon realizing that the last year of your education is upon you
The chasm hasn’t grown in years
The way on the ground was hard and long
The sides around me are dripping in fear
Now my resume needs to stay strong…
Internships and research are like nourishment
Which is hard to come by without green paper
Working three jobs to get through a month I resent
With the numbers in my bank account… Eh, maybe later.
The cost of life is so outrageous.
It makes the sides seem sleeker and mean
With outcroppings of rock jutting towards me
I want to run, hide, or scream.
But I set out to defeat this chasm
I began taming it as a child.
I cannot turn back now, no matter the hazard.
I cannot let this chasm run wild.
This is the home stretch, the important year.
Your bank account cannot seem to matter
You’ll emerge triumphant, beating the fear
And change the world for the better.
At least, that's what they tell you...
But realistically, you're in debt up to your eyes
You step on the stones of missed opportunities.
The banks hold your life in their stacks of ID numbers
Your are no face. You have no voice.
You are their minion forever more.
Or until you pay off those loans...
Give education back to the people.
Stop the banks and coporations from controlling our endings.
