Upon Remembering

Upon Remembering

by Reece Carson

I remember that summer morning

I remember it like it was yesterday

I was laughing and relaxed

it was going to be a good day

I remember when my grandma’s face turned

I remember when she said, “Come here…”

I remember my father grabbing my hand

my smile disappeared

I remember her saying, “It’s Dev, it's not good.”

I remember smiling at the drop of a dime

I remember saying, “Oh, just another surgery.”

Grandma whispered, “Not that lucky this time…”

I remember my world turned upside down

I remember hiding my face

I remember I couldn't contain the tears

Dad said she was in a better place

I remember thinking back to all the memories

I remember thinking it wasn't real

I remember praying she knew I loved her

tears and hugs aplenty, didn't know how to feel

But then, I remembered the good times

and I remembered some of the bad

I remembered how much I loved my cousin

then it all wasn't so sad

I remember my cousin Devyn

I remember everything in bits and bits

I love my cousin Devyn

love is something you can't forget
