Urgent Serenity

I lay beneath the great oak

braided branches, and fluttering

leaves,

trying to catch pieces of the poem

forming in my head.

Phrases float on the wind

caressing the mighty trunk,

caressing my hands.

Every slip of red and green,

Every motion of the leaves,

Every sound breaking through the trees

leaves my head swimming with uncaptured words.

They flit around,

colliding gently like the dancing

of falling leaves.

They drive me deliciously insane

sending my fingers itching,

searching

for pen and paper -

chanting with urgent serenity,

begging to be released.

Rhythm and melody start behind my eyes

and rush through my body,

shooting sparks out of my fingers and toes,

engraving upon the trunks of my heart

the beloved urge to

WRITE.
