Us
There we were outside the front gate,
That acceptance letter had sealed our fate.
We both knew deep down, but never wanted to admit.
We said we’d be strong, We'd be ready, We'd commit.
I guess you weren’t ready or at least not for me.
We barely made it a month, it was so hard being “we”.
Life is new and different, I am college bound.
We’re not in highschool, together, safe and sound.
So we called “Us” to an end, and I thought we’d kept our good graces.
We both hung up the phone with tears staining our faces.
I thought it was over, our time together... just done.
But you kept calling, and bragging, and saying you had won?
I thought we were good, just no us anymore.
Little did I know, you wanted a war.
You'd call day and night, I thought it’d never end.
I’d go to class acting happy, I had to pretend.
You stabbed me with your words: “you’re a slut” “you’re a whore”
My self esteem had been demolished, I wasn’t me anymore.
So you lost my respect, and the battles they erupted.
I was committed. I was loyal. What do you mean I couldn’t be trusted?
You saw this coming from the start, but hoped it was untrue?
Well your true colors have shown and I’m glad that we’re through.
You created problems we never had, I loved you, I cared.
How did things get so bad?
Was it my friends? My teammates? The guys down stairs?
My heart used to be yours, but you said it was theirs.
So I’m done, and I’m finished, but you don’t have me beat.
You broke my heart, you wrecked my pride, but you’ll never knock me off my feet.
I’m finally on my own, you ended “Us”, now it’s “I”
But you’re hurt and confused, when you hear of new guys.
Well it’s true, you heard right, although you thought it unlikely.
There are good men at Pacific, and some of them like me.
No insults. No low blows. Do detrimental phone calls.
I’ve met guys with some class in our residence halls.
I’ll end this with taste, for a whore I know how.
I’m done with your resentment, you won't drag me down.
I love it here, and I’m doing better on my own.
No lost boy in Phoenix, will knock this tiger off her throne.
