Us
It started with a hello A wink of the eye A smile on the face
Love in the air Joy in our hearts Happiness fills our souls
A year later He heads off to war Not knowing what's in store
He tells me tales of battle He speaks about his desire to come home He whispers "I love you" and "I'll see you soon"
Everyday I pray for his safety Everyday I hope he will return home Everyday I cry because I'm not with him
One more week until I see him One more week until I hug him One week of worrying
Suddenly a knock at the door A slight hum of the doorbell Curiosity engrosses me
There at the door There stands a man in dress blues The tears swell up in his eyes
My heart is pounding My pulse is racing My worst fears have come true
He says: "I'm sorry to inform you..." And my ears stop listening
I drop to my knees I beg him to tell me it's not true I cry and cry and cry
The man hugs me tight "It'll be alright" he whispers We sit in silence until I can stand once again
I say thank you to the man I shut the door I cry some more
It ends with a goodbye A tear in the eye A smile on the face
