Used To

We used to know each other better than anyone else.

Know what the other was feeling just by the quirk of an eyebrow

Or the twitch of a lip.

But that was years ago.

Too far back to really remember.

Too far back to even care.

Those feelings pop up though, usually at the worst of times.

They bring with them flashbacks of heartache and pain

And love and lust and long summer days and cold winter nights.

They disappear as quickly as they come,

Leaving behind a patched up hole that someone else is trying to fill.
