V-Day
I remember that day when we first met.
Sitting in church that morning thinking "Oh God, I can't believe gram actually said yes."
Remembering nothing from the sermon that day, I just remember my prayer:
"Dear Lord help me to keep my breakfast down. There's no quick exit from this pew."
When we first met, I was quiet and shy.
After getting to know you, you felt like a long time friend.
You quickly found out that I am a story teller.
Telling you my story story of survival.
Telling you my hopes, my dreams, and things I didn't want.
Things that I won't say never to.
Things that I just don't want quite yet.
You listened to me as I spoke, and still do.
You were quick to join Team Overcomer.
As I showed you my "battle scars."
Given to me by a man who desires better for me in life.
When we first met, I picked up on your conservative nature.
Quick to listen.
Slow and careful as to how you respond.
Slow to grow angry.
You haven't said "I love you."
Because you realize that love is more than just a four letter word or a game to be played.
I found myself getting to know the real you.
A gentle man with a caring heart so true.
True love stands the test of time.
Because it is both patient and kind.
It isn't easily angered, nor does it boast.
Love does not delight in the evils of this world, but rejoices in truth.
Love never fails, and this remains:
Meeting you has changed who I am, and I will always cherish our memories and those we continue to create.
Happy Valentine's Day.
