The Value of 5 Dollars

Grandpa gave me 5 dollars and I was really rich.

Just dreaming of all the things I could buy, it seemed to be my niche!

How much is a mansion?  A boat? A new car?

Oh, with all my riches, I could travel very far!

But I passed that candy shop right on the corner,

And nobody thought, “Somebody warn her!”

I tried to ignore it but I just could not,

It was the best darn candy I had ever bought!

I never did think about saving my money,

Until one day my mom said “Oh Honey,

Saving your money is clearly not your cup of tea,

But in a few years don’t come crying to me!”

I let her words pass me by,

Until I turned 15, and I really did cry.

Why would I let 5 dollars down the drain!

The thought of this truly gave me many pains!

5 dollars, and I thought I was tough,

But 5 dollars now, seems pretty rough!

That 5 dollars that my Grandpa had gave,

The only way I will use it is to SAVE SAVE SAVE!
