Value of A Dollar

When I was sixteen I learned what it means to have a dream job.
A dream job is not necessarily the career you have always dreamed of.
It is a job that teaches you the value of a dollar.
Forcing you to reflect upon the struggles of your mother and father.
A dream job prepares you for adulthood.
It will punish you and demand one hundred percent regardless of your mood.
A dream job will show you how unfair the human race can be.
Just like it showed me that others had an advantage over me.
My dream job was that in agriculture.
Working under the unforgiving sun’s heat all for my future.
It spoke to me and told me to value my potential.
To stay true to my heart, remaining kind and gentle.
I am a son of two undocumented parents.
They struggled to keep a me clothed and fed.
I am at a University studying to become a teacher.
Persevering and fighting, no longer known as a dreamer.
My dream job has led me here.
To the place where I shall have no more fear.
Waking up every morning to save up for an education,
Helped me appreciate my studies and increase my dedication.
I believe that a University experience shouldn’t be for the elite or very few,
But also for those who have learned the value of a dollar, like me and you.
