Life begins inside the cell
A simple structure,
without much complication,
that one can find anywhere
A cell, which can build a monastery
Or a convent, or a prison: a heart of good or evil
A cell, which can build a functioning being
A cell, which can build a towering tree
Or the fish playing peacefully in the pond
A cell, in the skin on a hand on a human on the piano keys
Whether in learning or by profession
Or a cell in their heart that quickens with the beat of a drum
Whether it comes from their own swiftly pounding feet
Or anticipation for a heroic feat
Whether it is a game, their own, or they are saved
Or from the hand of their abuser
Or from reading the words of that unconditional lover
As they feel the diamond that trickles down their cheek
Showing the price of their soul
