Valued Dreams
‘Be stern’, he shouted, ‘Hold on to your dreams’;
‘Preserve them’, he later added a little pensively.
‘What for?’ I asked, ‘I cannot store them in my memory.’
Would that not change the course of my thoughts?
My friend was struggling to find a way out for me.
And I was merely working on my dreams,
To make them memorable and exciting for me;
He did not know I had always failed to revive my dreams.
Dreams are difficult to handle.
I know dreams reflect our pent-up emotions and desires,
If I hold on to my dreams, I will not let go of my desires,
They will continue to poke, pester and depress me;
Good dreams will make me want more, the bad, add fears.
Are dreams replaceable, they certainly are, the old ones,
Are soon forgotten, often they are unwittingly erased,
To ease and refresh the mind.
