Vanish

hard not to think about what we’re leaving behind

more so than what we’re headed toward.

maybe

because we’re not there yet.

these people I’ve come to know, you especially,

who will fade away when we’re all

too busy to call.

I sit in your car

and trace shapes and lines on

the cold window pane.

it won’t be much longer.

the marks will vanish and so will I

but I hope when the window is clear that

you will still see me.

you say you’re never going to leave, that you’ll always be here

but what if I’m the one who’s leaving?

my worst fear is not you or them.

my worst fear is me.
