The Veil of the Sun

The sun needs a break sometimes

She runs

She escapes

Leaving nothing but the somber, night sky behind her

She hides behind clouds

Wanting to be embraced by the thick vapor

As if she is dancing in the back corner of the stage

Back to the audience

Her mind in lala land

She does not wish to shine for you today,

just for herself

She leaves you perplexed, wondering if her effervescent warmth was nothing but a mirage

Days can go by without you seeing her face

Is she playing hard to get?

Sometimes she’ll tease (appease?) you with a glimmer of her smile

A tiny glint in her eyes

Only to retreat and retire behind grey sheets

You have gotten so use to her always being there

Rising again and again

Wanting for her to stream her light upon your skin, gracefully caressing your cheeks

as she always does

She is not here for your instant gratification

Sometimes she’s weary

She’s emptied out

No longer able to give

The sun needs a break sometime

So she runs and escapes

Leaving nothing but the somber, night sky behind her

retreating and retiring behind grey sheets

but never

not once

did she ever stop shinning
