A Veiled Smile

There it went,

the veil that covered that beautifully hideous face.

There was now no escape.

Grinning deviously, she questioned her beauty.

Those magnetic eyes, hypnotized,

but her slit mouth, frightened

as her jaw unhinged to ask me again.

I couldn’t help but gasp at the ugliness

that resides in the beauty.

Like concrete poured on natural shelters,

her smile seemed a gaping hole

with no end in sight.

Even as the sun rays blazed and burnt my skin,

I wished that I had found a way.

Alas, the darkness consumed me,

because I couldn’t say,

maybe.
