Victim of a Sleepless Night

And here again I find myself The victim of a sleepless night When thoughts are in turmoil And demons fight When your innards are beginning to boil-- Without peace you toss and turn And your insides begin to burn With a hot and searing pain That has sprouted from your brain And so continued down you spine Until it reached you tippy-toes-- And there is an incessant whine That grows and grows Until it screams out loud and clear, But the shame is, no one but you can hear. And so you’re left in the blackest abyss Of the darkest nights Under the dimmest of stars With no one to kiss Or to hold in your frights Or to lovingly trace your scars- Just you, in your bed, Eyes glazed over, staring dead Into an unfathomable space, Too afraid to fall asleep And too afraid to stay awake. 8-17-15
