Victory

  The train chugs along,

On the path to where I don’t belong,

As my death draweth nigh,

I must escape and fly.

But there is no fleeing from the holocaust or this throng,

so all I can do is remain headstrong,

Anguish is my call for perseverance,

although all is bleak in appearance.

Pain is my virtue and song,

Because my family is long gone,

Soon I will join them and be no more,

because all these cold- blooded soldiers are seeking my life and war.

As the days pass by,

My only friend, hunger, is making me cry,

groaning along in my atrocities,

keeping me alive with its ferocity.

Outside the blooms of late fall wither and regress,

As nature groans in distress,

Winter is well on its way,

So I must brace myself and stay,

Without much clothing I may get frost bite,

But I believe God is protecting me with all his might.

An elderly man reaches out to me,

His cloudy eyes reveal defeat,

Having lost hope for the future ,

Having been tortured by the abuser,

His body ready to rest from the horrid inflictions,

It just seems like a fiction,

But still deep in his eyes,

is the halo of sunlight in reprise.

Spring will soon be here,

And each day people seem to disappear,

I’m stuck and imprisoned in this slaughterhouse,

So I’m ready to grouse,

But since I’m a Jew,

My thoughts are trash in their view.

The summer of 1944 is here,

Chattering among the soldiers has created a sense of fear,

The soviet forces are on their way,

Maybe that’s why all the gas chambers are ablaze today,

Hiding all the dehumanizing things they have done,

That same night a rush of soldiers entered our barrack,

They stormed us out into the field,

I will always remember this night,

They made us shed our stripes.

Just as we started heading towards the fiery gas chamber,

I heard screams and shouts,

they were finally here to provide relief,

I am saved because of my belief.

This is the day of new beginning,

It is time to recollect and move on,

Time to accept that love is bringing us a new dawn,

Disposing the ache that’s all gone,

I’ve finally found a place with fresh air,

in these I find solace in the depths of despair.
