Victory

A smile bitter than before
I won't conform
Fires burning on my feet
I won't transform

"You're nothing," they whisper.
"She's worthless," she gossiped.
I won't listen when the vultures start circling.
I won't give in when their voices start singing.

The final bell rings in
I don't think again
I will arise like the suns from the years I've come to see
And it's time for it to cease and let me be

This isn't the finality of my life
I won't hear any of their leers
They will all be ashamed as I thrive
Even if I can still pour out those tears

I'm strong with the fire burning my skin
The ache pins my chest, pressuring me in my head
I have faith
I don't care what they've said

What I'm most afraid of although
Is that victory thrums in my veins
And deep inside I know
Even if the thought of it still pains
