Victory on the Horizon
The end is so close, I can see it in the distance.
Ultimate victory is on the horizon, so close but out of range!
For my body, aching all over, rest has been estranged.
The journey so far has been long and hard, I’ve nearly lost my persistence
My body is about to mutiny, close to giving up where I stand,
It’s hardly a request or a thought for rest, it’s more of a demand.
What is asked of me seems too much, I don’t know how much more I can stand
Why I was chosen to carry this burden, I just can’t understand,
I tried to see a happy future, but looking forward I was blind,
And since hindsight is 20/20 I decided to look behind,
And I saw my start point in the distance where the journey had begun,
And between me and home, I saw all that I had done.
I’d climbed mountains of challenges, crossed raging rivers of delays.
I’d gone through valleys of doubt, and traversed the deserts of dog days.
Looking back at my achievements, I turned to the challenges ahead,
And I realized that the challenge I faced then was not the worst I’d ever had,
And yet my feet felt like they’d been weighed down with heavy chains of lead,
And although this wasn’t my largest mountain, the constant pressure was driving me mad!
I have no Faith to put faith in, I have no God to guide me.
I am a prisoner of myself, locked in a cage of introversion, and although I have the key,
I fail to find the courage in me to attempt to break free.
“Maybe I should talk to them”, “No, the conversation would be crappy”.
Desperate for hope, around me I looked for inspiration.
Around me, I see many weakened states become powerful, great nations.
Around me, I see people rise up and bravely fight to end their subjugation,
And the poor that have become rich, that have risen out of near starvation,
I see phoenixes rise from the ashes, escaping supposed damnation!
The situation had led me to a point of desperation,
And so I’d decided that I wouldn’t wait any longer for my liberation.
The coming mountains may be easier or worse,
The challenges ahead I cannot forecast,
But to the best of my ability, all the challenges I’ll try to transverse,
And no matter how steep the mountain may be I will remain holdfast!
For victory is on the horizon.
