Vietnam

Vietnam

Ya want some poetry

Ya want some memories

Let this haunt your nights

As it does mine

Morning still dark

Roto blades noise background

Dark outlines

Smell JP4 & JET A

Mount up!

Huey, Cobra

Jolly Green Giant, Chinook

Sikorsky and Bell all

Go

GO, GO, GO !!!

Dew wet grasses

Humid, stink, and rot

Punjab pits

Smell

Fuel Oil…yeah…napalm

No Cordite now

Nitro’s pungent smell

S**t burners

Smell

Sweaty body odor

Cigarettes and booze

Fish Sauce or “Nuoc Mam”

Human waste and rotting garbage

 Chickens, pigs, and emaciated dogs

Monkeys on a chain

Children and geese are early warning

Spitting cobras no warnings

Rice paddies

Banded King Kraits (2 step)

Cobras and vipers

Ever present

Slither along

Hiding under rocks and logs

Centipedes and giant scorpions

Red ants and Wolf spiders

Had enough?

Flowers, vines and trees

Are next with

Heart break grass, wait a minute vines

Viet Cong, VC, Charlie

NVA, Kramer Rouge, Pathet Lao

They want to kill you

$50 for Military ID Card

$500 for a soldier

There were sounds too

Silence

Hanoi Hanna news n music

We got to get out of this place

These boots are made for walking

My girl

Paint it black

House of the rising sun

Purple haze

Green Green Grass of home

Bamboo groves were nice

Under growth was evil

Underground sanctuaries

Tunnel rats

And snipers

C Ration, MRE’s

Hot meal if your lucky

Smoke ‘em if ya got ‘em

Sit or lie with creepy crawlies

“Nam Sucks - Embrace the Suck”

The End Result

What did we achieve?

What did we achieve?
