Vietnam War Protest
Dear Mr. President,
On quite an eventful day called Tet
Came a daring surprise that few had seen yet.
Though we forced our Communist rival to scram,
The likes of many turned against Uncle Sam.
Suddenly, the world was struck with awe,
For mortal men were consumed by flaw.
Our “admirable” men made a heartless error,
For My Lai was filled with bloody terror.
How much should we pay for a useless cost?
How much should we pay for a fight that is lost?
Why should we worry for an authority that would dare
Fight a war against a threat to which it doesn’t give a care?
Inexperience is a setback that we must not possess,
For the unknown is a danger that would make us powerless.
You have betrayed our trust. You have caused such a rattle.
We are American citizens, not pawns made for battle.
There they fight under a dangerous sky,
Where the land is rough, and it’s fruitless to try.
While guerillas attack, the troops are battered,
Until all hope is lost and their hearts are shattered.
Regards,
Kyle Buie
