Villanelle Poetry

A sliver of humanity in the pitch-black,

The palest shadows of kindness in combat.

When does self defense become an attack?

Raise a fist to fight, launching a counter attack,

All brawns no brains, what’s the point of a diplomat?

A sliver of humanity in the pitch-black.

They follow with a blind eye saying it’s ‘payback’.

Lives are worth nothing. It’s time to reformat.

When does self-defense become an attack?

Each night soldiers, setting up a bivouac.

No more homes, no doormat.

A sliver of humanity in the pitch-black.

Thousands of lives lost seen only as a setback.

Families are transfered, a wife an army brat.

When does self-defense become an attack?

Holding memories inside never to unpack.

Tears and rain all you hear is pit-a-pat.

A sliver of humanity in the pitch-black,

When does self-defense become an attack?
