voice

The quiet one

who has no voice

Why won’t she speak?

The voices floating around and around

But my own mouth won’t make a sound.

I try to speak

to mumble,

stutter,

but I can’t

can’t even utter

what I feel

or how I think.

But then I found

a friend in me

a loyal one, like Emily

the mighty pen

at times neglected

fast became

my most protected

my paper was so patient still

so comforting, gave me the will

to speak my mind

fight for what’s right

I found my voice

in the dead of night.
