A Voice of Light

I can't tell if the war between

acceptance and fear is raging

around me or inside of me.

Cries for peace surpass my lips, but

my voice isn't loud enough.

With so much to say,

who would care to take heed?

My ears are ringing

as I am about to take my first step.

A voice of light is all I ever wanted to be.

But suddenly my mind holds me back,

"You are not enough."

I am only one person

and I alone cannot change a world

that will not listen.

Now I write this truth out

in words that jumble together like silent prayers.

My heart aches to stop the war,

but I am stuck on paper.
