A Voice Not a Punch Line
We all want to matter
To know that somewhere someone out there
Has been touched by the words we said
The things we did
To know we did something that mattered
What we don’t know is that that stuff doesn’t matter
If its only purpose was to garner satisfaction for ourselves
Not cause we cared
I hear the cries of those in pain
And I cry, my soul calls to them because they need the help
Not just the one’s whose pain you can see
My Soul cries for the one’s who keep their pain buried deep
Those are my sisters and brothers in need
Their pain is mine cause I’ve lived it
The very experiences are not the same
No
It’s the pain of keeping so much bottled up
The pressure trying to force its way to the surface
It’s the dry eyes and pretty smiles that hurt
Cause no one wants your whole story
And if they did you don’t want to show it
They don’t really want to see
Judgments are so quick and easy to make
“Your lives aren’t hard, you don’t know what hard is”
But pain is pain
Whether it’s a gunshot or a broken heart
Pain remains pain
I hear the cries of those in pain
And I cry, my soul calls out to you because like you
I am broken
My soul cries out to you
Embrace all of you, every part that is beautifully twisted
As I embrace you
