Voices

Left alone on the shore,
No one around but the trees.
All I have left are clouds to adore.
Nothing to look at but the vast open sea.

I wander in search of what to eat,
“Come this way...”
A little melon becomes my treat,
My vision begins to sway.

“It's okay you're not alone...”
A little white flower gazes at me.
Voices begin to fill my head with rich deep tones.
“Come over here and then you'll feel free..”

I follow the teasing vines above me.
“Almost there...”
They whisper and whisper, can't you see?
To listen is only fair.

“Just over the cliff...”
I giggled and waved at the water beneath,
The water smiled back inviting me over the cliff, over the cliff.
“Come explore the deep blue heath!”

My legs go stiff and I step away.
My vision clears and I fall to the ground.
All thoughts begin to shift and still I lay.
Left alone here, I am found.

Night grips me in a blanket of cold.
My thoughts haunt my sleep.
Exhaustion makes me feel old.
The voices no longer speak.

If all were to go bleak,
No body left but me,
On an island lost at sea,
All I'd need is my sanity.
