Vulnerable
Jarhead. Airman. Seal. Beret.
Multiple nicknames for one thing
Soldier
He sacrifices fo us
To protect his homeland
To ensure his family's safety
To ensure our freedoms
To ensure our happiness
He goes to active battlegrounds
Fights the enemy
Sees horros we can only imagine
Sees things we choose to ignore
Comes home
Badly scarred
Psychologically shaken
Outcasted by society
The society he sacrificed to save
The society he defended selflessly
Damaged, Broken, Unstable, Unsafe, Unreliable
Labeled
Eyed
Gossiped
One civilian decides to listen
Wants to hear his story
Wants to heal his mind
Offers to listen
The only thing he ever asked for
Upon his return home
An open ear
And some helpful suggestions
Talking, discussing
Heals him
He can recognize his flashbacks
Can control his responses to them
Can rehabilitate his mind
And can reenter society
The society that he defended
The society that essentialy caused his trauma
The society that cast him out
Can now rewelcome him
As the hero he is
As he deserves to be recognized
Because one civilian
Offered to be his counsel
