Vultures

Look, there's eagles!

My love proclaimed

but I knew they were vultures

and as we lay in fields of gray

the metallic frames grew closer

for it was in that hollow drone we found

that no avian strain approached

save with bomb bays opened

and payload unloaded

we watched as they burned our city

and as we lay in fields of gray

only embers for us to remember
