The Wait

As it rains

she watches the little white stick for a positive...hoping for it to blink negative, which would mean

her life could continue like

normal.

Going to school,

going out with friends every weekend, to that new Under 21 club

on Main Street,

the normal she’d become used to...

before he raped her in the back bedroom of his house,

and left her to bleed.

Which makes her think of that cut on her knee

from a grueling soccer game, where she scored

the winning goal,!

Cheered on by her

Mother and Father,

who take her to her favorite burger joint and

want her to admit that something went

horribly

wrong

at his house party....

But she can’t tell them today

tomorrow

or the next day.

But she can watch the rain fall

at her window...and wait

for a little white stick to say

no.
