The Wait

6:50 pm

The end was soon.

Anticipation overwhelming the mind.

People pass,

Unfeeling to the time ticking on.

7:00 pm

Minutes disguised as hours.

Unconvincing as they slugged on,

Second by second.

7:10 pm

Tapping feet,

Matching the clock’s rhythm.

New-found nervousness,

Confusing emotions.

7:15 pm

Each second could be the one.

Questions filling the spaces,

Thoughts choppy, relentless.

7:18 pm

Excitement controlling,

Taking power.

Nerves, thoughts, taps ended.

Waiting was over.
