WAIT.
Wait
For
Me.
I'd faintly scream
aimlessly trying
gasping for air
In this ominous ocean
Drifting
Drowning
Deeper
Slowly
Sinking
Suddenly
Suddenly,
The weight of this world
Is too hard to hold
When you can barely
Force your diaphragm
To rise up
and fall back down
Stuff your lungs with air
And let it go.
Out your mouth
Up through your nose.
Or so I was told.
I was told
If I don’t learn to move,
Hit the ground running
I'll never know,
Never comprehend
This life
So, I guess they were right.
Because I tend to wander,
Let myself loose at night
Why is it I'm so filled with fright?
Are there truly golden gates
And dainty flowers
Guarding the end of this fight?
I don’t get it
This endless war
I put up with the things in my head
Battling between the strings in my heart
My God how did I get this far.
I'm still young
Yet falling apart
People only notice
when things go bad
Ignoring when it's alright
Maybe that’s why it's so hard
For us to realize
It's not a simplistic fight
Beneath the skin,
Within the flesh.
And we won't win this war
With our backs to the door
It's more a singing in the rain
Kind of game.
Cast away our hearts
And come home with pebbles in our pockets
Chasing happiness is like
Putting in your all and getting a fraction
I want more out of myself
But can't push anymore
We've lost sight of hope
Yet long for the better.
